Hot On the Trail of “Coming in from the Cold”

We’re always up for a bit of sleuthing here at Crime HQ and we know you are too. So perhaps we can help out the esteemed folks at the Oxford English Dictionary as they hunt for the first use of the spy world expression: “come in from the cold.” Did it originate with John le Carré and his 1963 novel The Spy Who Came in from the Cold? Or do its roots go deeper than that?
