Axe Cop: Just a Man and His Axe Against the World

Axe Cop by Malachai and Ethan Nicolle

It’s the weekend before a holiday week, and maybe you’re not in the mood to pick up another hard-boiled noir/procedural right at this moment. Well, have I got a light read for you. It even embodies all things Thanksgiving; food, family, and fun.

From artist/writer Ethan Nicolle and his little brother Malachai Nicolle comes the wonderfully absurd world of Axe Cop, the story of a mustachioed blue-shirt, his pet T-Rex, and his motley team of bad-guy killers.

The genesis of Axe Cop comes from a Christmas visit with his family, when Ethan watched his little brother run around the house wielding a toy fireman’s axe saying he was playing “Axe Cop”. Ethan asked Malachai if he could play with him, and was given the fearsome weapon that is the flute (recorder). From there, Malachai made things up as he went, as five-year-olds are wont to do, and Ethan captured it first as a web comic and then as a graphic novel.

Check out the comic here, it makes for a very whimsical read, perfect for the season.
