Last night was the premiere of The Firm, a series based upon following the characters from John Grisham’s bestselling novel a decade later. At NBC’s website, you can watch the first episode if you missed it. Here’s the download:
As a young associate, Mitch McDeere (Josh Lucas) brought down a prestigious Memphis law firm which operated as a front for the Chicago mob, and his life was never the same. After a difficult decade, which included a stay in the Federal Witness Protection program, Mitch and his family re-surface in Washington D.C. where Mitch joins a white-shoe firm, wife Abby (Molly Parker) starts a new career as a schoolteacher, and daughter Claire (Natasha Calis) struggles to adjust. Coming to the new firm with Mitch is his feisty receptionist Tammy Hemphill (Juliette Lewis) plus her occasional boyfriend and occasional investigator, Mitch’s brother, Ray McDeere (Callum Keith Rennie), who served time for manslaughter. They’re emerging from isolation to reclaim their lives and their futures, only to find that past dangers are still lurking and new threats are everywhere.
Grisham is also serving as Executive Producer of the series, and here’s a short clip from the first episode. If you watched it, what did you think? If you missed it, are you likely to add it to your queue?
I recorded it….cannot wait to watch it!!!!
Reports, please! I often find pilots clunky, because they load them with backstory they’ll leave off explaining in future episodes, but if there are flashes of stuff I like, I’ll give them another episode to woo me. I’m very interested to know what people think of this one, and I’ll try to get caught up online to join you!
Haven’t watched it yet, but I’ll check out the pilot, at least, for Josh Lucas and Callum Keith Rennie, and isn’t Tricia Helfer in at least one episode too?
I was bored. Josh Lucas does not do it for me. Callum Keith Rennie was good, and Tricia Helfer was in the pilot but I don’t get her appeal. Don’t think I’ll be tuning in again.
I didn’t even know this was on last night to DVR. It seems like there are so many new mystery/thriller shows it is hard to keep up. It does seem like the pace on this would be hard to sustain week after week. I must admit that since @PopCultureNerd thought it was boring, I’m less likely to watch.
I’m on the fence. Don’t know if I can take another “who doneit.” I’ll give it another chance, though. Wasn’t bad but wasn’t anything stellar, either.
Oh wow, you give me too much credit, Deb!
Sometimes, I wish they’d just post the premise and skip the pilots entirely. I chose this clip from the show because it WAS exciting. The others were more talky or domestic, so I don’t think it’s intending to be a thrill race every week.
It was OK, but I really prefer TNT’s Leverage at that time.
To tell you the truth, I didn’t like the book or the movie, so I’ll probably skip this all together. Mostly I love Grisham’s work, but not The Firm.
I watched it! And I enjoyed it…will definitely be watching again. (“With three, three exclamation points!!!”) 😉
