Book Review: The Fury by Alex Michaelides

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Silent Patient, Alex Michaelides' The Fury is a masterfully paced thriller about a reclusive ex–movie star and her famous friends whose spontaneous trip to a private Greek island is upended by a murder. Read Jeff Ayers' spoiler-free review!

Alex Michaelides delivers a terrific spin on the Agatha Christie classic, And Then There Were None, with a dash of the film Glass Onion in his latest thriller.

Elliot Chase narrates how this eclectic cast of characters ends up on a private Greek island for a weekend of relaxation. The retreat is a tradition for Lana Farrar, the world-famous actress who owns the island, and her invitees are her closest friends. But this year is problematic as the weather causes them to be isolated, and then the claws come out. Each character has a secret or hidden hatred, and all that will be revealed on this visit.

To say any more would rob the reader of a fantastic reading experience and spoil the many surprises. Eliot’s voice has a meandering style of telling the story, and it’s perfect for this thriller. If there has ever been a novel for an audiobook version, The Fury is it. Readers who have enjoyed Michaelides’ previous books will find this one his best yet, and his admiration for Agatha Christie is evident.
