You know how it is. The night stretches out in front of you and your brain is too tired to read. So you flip on the television hoping against hope that somethin—anything—worth watching will pop up. Usually, if you’re like me, you’re disappointed.
But not this time. No, this time I was presented with the wonder of “Love Boat Angels,” an episode of Charlie’s Angels that took place on The Love Boat. Oh, my, how did I miss this when it was shown back in 1979? I signed ont Twitter and announced it so those of my Tweeps with pathetic social lives like me could all watch together.
It was hilarious. Unintentionally, of course. The dialogue was absolutely painful. Unlike The Rockford Files or Murder She Wrote, neither Charlie’s Angels nor The Love Boat could be considered “timeless.”
It did, however, have an amazing, simply amazing budget. Scenes underwater, scenes at actual beaches, helicopters, truck destruction, a cast of thousands. And how many costume changes? Bikinis, businesswear, tuxes and evening gowns. Not to mention the scuba gear.
My personal favorite scene was when Bosley went to a an outdoor café and asked them to bring a phone to his table. And they did, with the cord trailing behind all the way through the tables. Coming in close second, Bosley spying on a woman and taking pictures of her with…an Instamatic.
I remember loving this show when it was on. Now I love it for its campiness. Do you ever watch old shows just for giggles?
Oh that episode sounds like a hoot! I’m so sorry I missed it.
When I go for old favorites, it usually Magnum or Remington Steele. It’s like catching up with an old friend.
There are some shows that I still love after all these years, but others make me cringe at my bad taste! Any time I can catch a Perry Maison (the original) I’m ecstatic. But may ’70s shows just make me want to run and hide any pictures of my Farah wannabe haircut.
@bungluna –
I am so lucky my hair wouldn’t do the Farrah thing or I would have been all over it!
@bungluna and @Laura — Um, I liked my Farrah haircut…
And I should add – did you guys see Cheryl Ladd on Chuck a couple of weeks ago? She played Sarah’s mother. I hadn’t seen her do anything in a long time. She did a good job.
I don’t watch Chuck…should I?
It’s very funny, so if you like funny, you should. It’s about to end though, so start with season 1 and the Netflix.
Wow, sorry I missed this. Where was it on?
We saw this one, too, and enjoyed the healthy serving of cheese! I wish the Love Boat characters had played a slightly bigger role in the story–Gopher and Isaac are born detectives.
scifidavid-
It was on a channel called “Universal HD”. If you like cheese, you must see if your cable/satellite company carries it as immediately following Charlie’s Angels there was an episode of T.J. Hooker.
Good luck!
