A Note from Alice Blanchard

Who says you can’t judge a book by its cover?

I love this cover. It combines all the elements of my Natalie Lockhart mystery series in a single image. A lake cloaked in mist and snow. A woman determined to uncover the string of murders that has crippled her hometown.

You know just by looking at this cover that Natalie won’t give up. She’s resolute. She’s determined to find out who the Shadow Girls are, and so will you…very soon.

A fire burns around the edges, representing the fictionalized town of Burning Lake, where evil has taken root. It also represents Natalie’s long-smoldering relationship with her best friend, Lieutenant Luke Pittman—a relationship she has forbidden herself to pursue.

This cover makes you want to follow her into the unknown and find out what really happened down in Randy Holmes’ dungeon. Does it have anything to do with her missing childhood friend Bella? And will Natalie choose Luke or Hunter? Above all else, will she walk into those misty woods and never come back? Will she make it out alive?

The woods have secrets.

The trees are carved with curses.

There’s something wicked in Burning Lake.
