The Yellow King's pulse had barely stopped before talk turned to who would replace Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as the two lead detectives for True Detective's highly anticipated second season. And did they talk! People stormed to the internet to predict and root for their dream pairings for next season (My dream? Jon Hamm and Bryan Cranston).
But in an interview with Public Radio International, series writer Nic Pizzolatto had the following to say:
Right now, we're working with three leads. It takes place in California. Not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser-known venues of California and we're going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambience of the place, much like we did in season one.
So much for pairings! And for revisiting the beautiful bayou! I hope Pizzolatto retains that unique cosmic-horror theme that gave True Detective a look and feel like no other show on TV, but he's been reading up on California history, and if Season 1 is any indication, we'll be seeing an overlooked part of the oft-visited state.
Pizzolatto has also confirmed that no one has been cast for Season 2 yet, but that process should begin in the near future. Who do you think we will be watching on screen next season? What is your ideal trifecta for Season 2? Let us know in the comments!
