The Walking Dead Season Finale: We ARE the Walking Dead

Last night saw the end of a roller coaster season for our Kentucky Sheriff-turned-zombie-hunter. After about 11 episodes of wandering in the woods, things finally hit the fan and got interesting, and boy, did they get interesting.

Not only did Rick FINALLY reveal what was whispered to him back at the CDC at the end of season 1, but we also finally got to see him laying down the law in an epic way. By dealing with his excess baggage, we finally get to see Rick come into his own as a symbol of authority. In both the comics and in the first season, Rick has always represented the abstract ideals of “law” and “justice” in the apocalypse, which got a little muddled there in the middle of season 2. I’m assuming that most of it was for character development, but it was handled in a very lazy way, if you ask me. Rick has put on his big boy pants, polished off that figurative badge, and taken the reins again. Good. I like Sheriff Rick, even if he gets a bit wordy.

If the comics and closing scenes are to be any indication, it looks like season 3 will have the survivors heading to prison, and we will get to meet my personal favorite character, that lawyer-turned-ninja, Michonne. I’m just hoping that the writers behind this second half of season 2 can maintain the tension and momentum they started building here at the end.

What did you think?!

I think that your description’s practically SPOILER-FREE, darn you! (Though I do love the reference to Rick’s big-boy pants!) And I was promised “bloodshed.” You’re going to make me go watch that episode for myself, aren’t you?

I tried to be as spoiler free as possible. Though, the big cliffhangers in the episode were only fan-service to the comic community. They aren’t cliffhangers as much as overly forboding.

I will also say that there was more zombie killin’ in the first 10 minutes of this episode than in the entirity of Season 2. Even Hershel bust some heads in his down-home southern style.
