The Patriot Threat: New Audio Excerpt

Steve Berry

The Patriot Threat by Steve Berry is the 11th Cotton Malone political thriller where a North Korean operative obtains files that could ruin the United States (available March 31, 2015).

The 16th Amendment to the Constitution is why Americans pay income taxes. But what if there were problems associated with that amendment? Secrets that call into question decades of tax collecting? In fact, there is a surprising truth to this hidden possibility.

Cotton Malone, once a member of an elite intelligence division within the Justice Department known as the Magellan Billet, is now retired and owns an old bookshop in Denmark. But when his former-boss, Stephanie Nelle, asks him to track a rogue North Korean who may have acquired some top secret Treasury Department files—the kind that could bring the United States to its knees—Malone is vaulted into a harrowing twenty-four hour chase that begins on the canals in Venice and ends in the remote highlands of Croatia.

With appearances by Franklin Roosevelt, Andrew Mellon, a curious painting that still hangs in the National Gallery of Art, and some eye-opening revelations from the $1 bill, this riveting, non-stop adventure is trademark Steve Berry—90% historical fact, 10% exciting speculation—a provocative thriller posing a dangerous question: What if the Federal income tax is illegal?

Listen to the prologue of Steve Berry's The Patriot Threat audiobook, read by Scott Brick.

In addition to a normal audiobook, Steve Berry is also releasing a Writer's Cut version. As the YouTube video below explains (with a sample of the inside scoop!), the Writer's Cut features Steve Berry's own thoughts, musings, and extra information at the end of each chapter, just like additional director's comments on a DVD. Comment below for a chance to win a copy of The Patriot Threat Writer's Cut and let us know what you think!

Steve - I didn't think I'd like audio books, but a long commute to work convinced me to give them a try. Now, I extend my "reading" by approximately 50 books per year thanks to audio books. I haven't read any 0f yours yet (someone misread my wish list and bought me something by Sebastian Berry instead), but am looking forward to it.

I'm getting caught up on the Cotton Malone books I've missed. Scott Brick is telling me the stories. He IS the voice of Cotton Malone. Excellent work - by author and narrator.

A "Writer's Cut" for books....what a brilliant idea! I always love to learn some of the author's thoughts and work process on writing a book. Wonderful idea. I'm just staring with audio books. I have eye issues that are making it increasingly hard to read, and I'm starting to make adjustments for that. Would love to have this audio book. From the excerpt, I like the reader's voice and the way he conveys the different story elements.

I've never tried audio books but the chance to hear the author give commentary on his book is too good to miss. I love hearing the back stories of the novels/series I enjoy. I love Berry's way of combining little known facts of history with an engaging story and characters.
