To Catch A Thief: Thief Returns Stolen Goods, Writes Apology

To Catch a Thief

Fifteen years after the theft, the “dumb kid who wanted to right a wrong” returned the jewelry he stole from a party he went to. Margot Riphagen, now 31, was blamed for the theft of four rings from her family's home after a party got a little out of control when she was 16.

In an interview with Good Morning, America, Riphagen said:

We never thought we would get any of the stuff back. It's completely amazing and wonderful and we're all thrilled about it. It's a super-positive thing and a great way to start the New Year.

The family still doesn't know who returned the rings, which were sent anonymously to Riphagen's mother's office.

We don't care who it was. I was stupid when I was 16 and I'm sure they were too. Somebody did it for the thrill of it, not for money.

Well, it's not every day that a thief turns themself in (kind of)!
