The Last Days of American Crime: The Movie?

Will you survive the last days of American crime?
What would you do if you found out that within days, there would be no more crime, that a new program would make it impossible for people to even conceive of criminal activities? This question lies at the heart of the three-graphic-novel arc of The Last Days of American Crime by Rick Remender and Greg Tocchini.

Rumors that the story was being considered for the big screen have been swirling, and now are confirmed by our friends over at Deadline who say that Anthony Mandler, video and commercial directing star, is in negotiations to make the jump to the big screen with this project.

In the not-too-distant future as a final response to terrorism and crime, the U.S. government plans in secret to broadcast a signal making it impossible for anyone to knowingly commit unlawful acts. To keep this from the public, the government creates a distraction, installing a new currency system using digital charge cards.

Enter Graham Bricke. A career criminal never quite able to hit the big score, Graham intends to steal one of the charging stations, skip the country and live off unlimited funds for the rest of his life. But the media has leaked news of the anti-crime signal one week before it was to go live…and now Graham and his team have just a few days to turn the crime of the century into the last crime in American history.

The “one last job” is in contention for the most over-used crime cliché (see our post and vote now!), but this is a last job on an epic scale. If it’s done well, it might make a fun flick.
