Welcome to Revenge Week!

When good nerds go bad
Some of the best crime stories are based on the theme of Revenge, so we’ve declared this week Revenge Week here at Criminal Element. Of course, when we think of tales of vengeance, they’re usually bloody, grim and dark. But getting even can be funny, too, as shown in two classic 80’s movies, Revenge of the Nerds and Real Genius.

Revenge of the Nerds is, as you would expect, a nerds versus jocks movie. The adventures of Gilbert, Lewis and Booger as they made their way through the jock-infested campus spawned three movie sequels and two television knock-offs.

But as much fun as that was, some of us don’t think it held a candle to Real Genius, which pitted nerds against nerds. (Or geeks against geeks, if you prefer.)  The subject matter was a bit darker (poor geeks, manipulated into creating an evil, world-destroying weapon!) but the whole movie is almost painfully funny. If you never saw this one, you absolutely should. To introduce this week, I give you a tiny clip…revenge as a moral imperative.

Yes, Real Genius is an amazing film, with so many great lines that are perfect for use in situations of all types.
“I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates, when he said, ‘I drank what?'”
“Mitch, there’s something you need to know. Compared to you, most people have the IQ of a carrot.”
And, of course, there’s Val Kilmer at his hottest, which is the other reason I love to watch it.

I, who live with Caddyshack quotes as my touchstone, will have to rewatch this one and get the wisdom!
