What we we saying about Tom Cruise as Reacher? Not too much positive, frankly. But Jason Statham as Parker? We decided they just might have something there, and to update, Parker now has a release date. The brutal criminal who everyone loves to read about will be hitting the big screen (again) October 12, 2012. Directed by Taylor Hackford, the movie is based upon the Richard Stark (aka Donald E. Westlake) novel Flashfire, and began production last week. Co-starring with Statham will be Jennifer Lopez, Michael Chiklis, and Patty Lupone, among others.

As a physician I have enjoyed [url=http://www.tnt.tv/series/rizzoliandisles/]Rizzoli and Isles[/url] because it has some feeling of truth to the atmosphere. The medical components meet my standards for authenticity. See my article about Body of Proof, which I enjoy, but sometimes find somewhat illogical. What is especially interesting to me about this phenomenon is that I find reading Tess Gerritsen less enjoyable than watching her characters. Oh well there is no accounting for taste.
As to Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher, if I remember right, and I know I do, Jack is 6 foot 5 inches and 250 pounds. Mr. Cruise is under five foot nine and probably doesn’t eat meat weighing in at under 160 pounds (just a guess). But really where is his muscle. Could you imagine being intimidate by meeting Tom Cruise in a dark alley at night. Not I. Unless Jack’s character is going to become completely cerebral, what a waste that would be, then how the beep can it be Tom Cruise. Pardon my beeping, but you get the picture. Come on, give me Arnold whoops no scratch that idea, another bad choice. No give me Jean Claude as Jack Reacher. The part won’t take much acting anyway so his limitations won’t interfer. Even Walker Texas Ranger would be an upgrade over Mr. Cruise for physical presence.
Isn’t life funny? Right after I posted that anti-freeze is a dose dependent poison in my I Blame Stephen King essay, Rizzoli and Isles use it to kill their victim last night.
From the size of the bottle he was drinking from and the fact that he was being poisoned over three weeks, I am glad to see that they had him die in a car crash, and not drop dead from the poison directly. It seemed medically more realistic. They just have a better medical consultant on this show than some others I guess.
Maybe he just went blind and lost control of his car?
But then how did he hit that home run the afternoon before that put his team in the playoffs? Oh just stop thinking and enjoy MadMutt.
That’s my problem, inability to suspend my medical disbelief.
Tess Gerritsen was an M.D. before becoming a bestseller, and I think she
advised some in the show’s first season. That grounding, whether or
not she’s directly involved anymore, may have set up the more realistic
depictions. We’ll see if it continues!
I gave up on R&I after the season finale last year which was so totally unrealistic that no matter how much I suspended my disbelief, it was ludicrous. Perhaps I’ll try again but not too likely. As always I am on a different path than most tv fans.
