Castle Is Back!

Castle and Beckett are ready to solve another mystery.
Beckett and Castle…will they be back? Together?
Well, almost.

Castle returns in one month, on September 19th, for season four. As far as I am concerned it can’t come soon enough.

(Update: It finally came! Click here to read a recap of Castle’s “Rise,” the Season 4 premiere!)

You may remember that we had our own season finale recap and lots of people posted their guesses about what might happen in season four. If you haven’t caught up on the end of the last season, the time is now.  At Comic Con, ABC previewed the first scene of the first episode from the fall season, and you can watch it for yourself below.

***Spoiler Alert*** Stop now if you aren’t caught up with the end of last season, or if you don’t want to hear a single word about next season!

Chances are high that Beckett will survive the gunshot wound, but the real question is whether or not she’ll remember that Castle said, “I love you.”

And how will everyone get along with the new police captain Victoria Gates? The character is played by former “24” star Penny Johnson who also played Kasidy Yates Sisko on Deep Space Nine. She has been described as “by the book”, and is probably going to have issues with a mystery writer having the run of the homicide division. You don’t make a change like this unless you plan on generating massive amounts of conflict and I can’t wait.

Want to make sure you’re ready for the new season? You can take the Season Three Wrap-up Quiz here or learn more about the new Castle graphic novel, Deadly Storm, which will be released in late September.

Castle is determined to get his way.
If this isn’t enough of a Castle fix for you, cast members including Nathan “I am ruggedly handsome” Fillion (Richard Castle), Seamus Dever (Detective Kevin Ryan), Jon Huertas (Detective Javier Esposito), Tamala Jones (Lanie Parish), and Molly Quinn (Alexis Castle) recently participated in a fan panel at Comic Con and dropped a few hints, including…

  • Plans for a Ghostbusters themed Halloween episode
  • A rumor that we will meet Castle’s Dad this season, with cast speculation on who will play the character
  • Alexis growing up, and no longer so pleased with Castle’s police work
  • Jenny and Ryan’s wedding causing ripples for Esposito and Lanie

(We embedded one of the panel videos, a really adorable one, for your enjoyment, but you can see the whole set from the links below, broken down into five parts for ease. Just click and savor.)

Part 1:
This section features Castle cast introductions and then the panel talks about what it was like to film the scene where Beckett gets shot. The video starts out slow, but then gets going. The missing clip mentioned here is the first scene from the first episode, which is posted above, so you didn’t miss a thing.

The chemistry is undeniable.
Part 2:
Nathan Fillion, Seamus Dever and Jon Huertas talk about what it was like to lose Captain Roy Montgomery played by Ruben Santiago-Hudson. Molly Quinn talks about the big plans for the Halloween episode…

Part 3:
Molly Quinn goes into details of how Alexis is handling the fact that her father is behaving less like a writer and more like a cop, and what it means for her character. The panel also discusses who they think should play Castle’s dad, with suggestions ranging from Christopher Walken to Ken Howard to William Katt (the former star of Greatest American Hero, a really fun 70s TV show).

Part 4:
Nathan Fillion and Seamus Dever talk about how the actors put their personality into the characters and how the writers and the actors work pieces into dialogue from their previous shows including the ever-popular Firefly.  In fact, Molly Quinn dressed as Fillion’s character for the panel. If you get a chance to watch Firefly, I highly recommend it.

Part 5:
The cast talks about pranks they play on one another. Seamus Deaver talks about his characters’ backstory while Nathan Fillion distracts the audience.

Ready, set, CASTLE!

Castle best of its genre on telly today. Perfectally integrated cast. Problem with many of them is that the cast never jells. This one did from the first episode and am sure the cast will make newbys fit in perfectally because that is what great actors do. Can’t wait.

  5. Deborah Lacy

Shirley – I totally agree. You can tell how well the cast gets along on and off the show. They are having fun, so we do. I thought it was a total kick that Molly Quinn dressed up as Nathan Fillion’s character in Firefly.

  6. Terrie Farley Moran

I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed each and every video, as well as your commentary.

  7. Dianne

@Dianne. You are too punny. (Typo intended.)
