What Would Your Last Meal Be?

What could possibly be nefarious about such delicious-looking strawberry cake?  Well, this delight has the dubious distinction of having been chosen by the D.C. Sniper, spree killer John Allen Muhammed, as the dessert of his last meal (entree: chicken with red sauce), as documented by the extremely specific Dead Man Eating blog.

One Death Row prisoner in Texas wasn’t at all worried about indigestion or weight gain, so he reportedly ordered, “two chicken-fried steaks, two fried chicken breasts, three fried pork chops, two hamburgers with lettuce, tomato, onion and salad dressing, four slices of bread, half a pound of fried potatoes with onion, half a pound of onion rings with ketchup, half a pan of chocolate cake with icing and two pitchers of milk.”

As ghoulish as this consideration may be, we just have to ask. . .you already know what you’d choose, don’t you?  Confess!

    Okay, I’ll bite (get it?)
If this is my last meal, I would want it to last a long, long time (maybe that’s why that one guy ordered so much?).
I’d go for warm olives (sounds gross, but they are incredible), nuts of all kinds, even Brazils, grilled T-bone steak, my MIL’s macaroni and cheese, collard greens, cornbread, and lots of wine and beer.
Yeah, I’m not worried about calories either, given the context. For dessert, molten chocolate cake with whipped cream.
And now I am hungry. Rats.

Well, like Megan, I’d want several courses:

Brie with a nice, crusty Italian bread.
    Figs and prosciutto.
Pasta from my favorite Italian restaurant, probably the penne with eggplant and mozzarella, but not sure.
And I’ll go with Megan on the molten chocolate cake, but I want mine with vanilla bean ice cream.

    a bottle of red wine
a huge, HUGE steak, with a jar of A-1 steak snauce
a entire bag of frozen corn with tons of butter (corn cooked, natch)
    a bottle of red wine
a box of Trader Joes Brandy Beans
a pint of green tea ice cream
    a bottle of wine

Um… is Xanax a member of a food group?

Let’s see, think I’d go with shrimp cocktail, lobster bisque, a huge filet mignon (rare) with Béarnaise sauce, sautéed mushrooms, creamed spinach, garlic mashed potatoes, a really nice bottle (or 2) of Cabernet Sauvignon, Crème brûlée, and New York-style cheesecake with chocolate sauce. And for dessert, a Philly cheeseteak. 😛

Almost everyone’s got steak on their lists, and I must concur! The side dishes are giving me trouble, since I like all the classic accompaniments and the super comfort-food ones, too. Can I have popovers, and maybe German chocolate cake? Chili cheese fries? Shrimp and grits?

    Ooh, shrimp and grits. ?

  7. Darlene Murphy

Well poop. I was hoping for a recipe for the strawberry cake.
Last meal? Lobster bisque, huge steak very rare with horseradish sauce and popover/Yorkshire puddings. Fresh corn and or peas. Sals with lue cheese dressing. Creme Brulee and chocolate cake. To drink? Champagne, and good beer.

I think I might have to pass on the meal entirely. How much would I enjoy it facing certain, imminent death?

Prime rib rare, big bowl of general tso’s chicken with chicken fried rice, a big Mac with extra Mac sauce, chocolate cake with fudge frosting, sweet tea and a 2 liter of Pepsi.
