Susanna Calkins

Susanna Calkins, author of the Speakeasy Murders set in 1920s Chicago, grew interested in the real story of the earliest policewomen in Chicago while researching her fictional character Nancy Doyle, a policewoman striving to become a detective like Alice Clement. A historian by training, Susanna holds a Ph.D. in early modern British history and lives outside Chicago, with her husband and two sons. She also writes the award-winning Lucy Campion mysteries, set in 17th century London.
