Arnaldur Indridason’s Reykjavik-Rotterdam Comes to US as Contraband

Mark Wahlberg in Contraband based on screenplay by Arnaldur Indridason
How much contraband can you carry?
Hollywood, as we all know, can’t let a good thing go.  Everything has to have a sequel and, if that’s not possible, a prequel.  Still no go? That’s ok, they’ll just wait a few years and remake it.  The latest blockbuster announcement of a “new” movie is Contraband, starring Mark Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster, Giovanni Ribisi and a slew of others. The salient point about this movie, however, is that although it’s a remake, it’s not of an American production. The original film, titled Reykjavik-Rotterdam was a thriller penned by Arnaldur Indridason.

The question is, how much of the original heart will the new production have left when it releases in January?  We’ll leave it to you to judge: Here are the trailers for both movies.

I would love to see the original version of this film (not the US remake!) but have not been able to locate a DVD in the UK- do you know if it is available on DVD?

I know it was available at least for a while. Try used DVD sites or sellers like amazon.co.uk where you might be able to find a used copy.
