24: Deadline: New Audio Excerpt

24: Deadline by James Swallow is the tie-in thriller featuring CTU agent Jack Bauer in the aftermath of the show's most recent season finale (available August 5, 2014).

This tie-in novel to Fox's groundbreaking TV show 24 answers the question of what happened to CTU agent Jack Bauer after the thrilling final moments of the last season.

The time is 5:00 PM.

One hour ago, federal agent Jack Bauer was declared a fugitive. If he wants to survive, he must get out of the country, and he doesn’t have much time.

With his former colleagues in the Counter Terrorist Unit now dead, under arrest, or shut down, Jack has no resources to call upon, no back-up, and nowhere to go—only his determination can drive him on. One thing remains clear to him: the promise he made to his daughter Kim. Jack vows that he will see Kim one last time to tell her he loves her…before he drops off the radar forever.

Meanwhile, a hastily-assembled FBI task force set out to track down and capture Jack, even as a covert operations unit of Russia’s SVR set out to do the same—only the remit of the Russians is to kill on sight. As the clock runs down, Jack must face old friends and past enemies in a desperate race to stay one step ahead of the hunters, leaving them with a grim warning—

Stay out of my way, and I’ll be gone within 24 hours. You’ll never see me again. Come after me…and you’ll regret it.

Darn it – every time I read this newsletter I find more titles to add to my “list of books to buy”. The new Chris Ewan, Dead Line, and the new Jon McGoran, Deadout were already on my list and now I’ve just added this James Swallow title, Live Another Day, Deadline, from a TV show I don’t even watch. Obviously, I read thrillers and I read them for hours every day (yes, I’m very fortunate to have the time to read that much). I look forward to this newsletter every week. Thanks everyone, I think I’m helping keep our local Indie in business!

Sounds like a great read. I’m a huge an, and was happily shocked to see this come out. Sadly, whoever is doing the audio work for the book is really lackluster. It almost sounds like David Sedaris doing the reading (which is really not a good fit at all).
