Is NBC’s Hannibal “Following” the Leader?

Mads Mikkelsen will play the murderous Dr. Lecter on NBC's Hannibal
Mads Mikkelsen will play the murderous Dr. Lecter on NBC’s Hannibal
Watch this trailer and see! Okay, okay—it’s not a completely fair question, since both NBC’s Hannibal and Fox’s The Following (which we’re currently recapping) were announced last year. And of course, Dr. Lecter’s a notorious character from way back. However, both new shows do center on serial killing by multiple killers, as well as intricate relationships between intense lawmen and brilliant jailed murderers, in this case FBI agent Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen). If the new trailer’s anything to go by, this Big 3 series may also be, um, following cable’s Fox in pushing the boundaries of prime-time graphic depictions.

The bestselling source novel’s author Thomas Harris is co-credited with screenwriter Bryan Fuller (Heroes, Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me, Star Trek(s) among others) for all 13 episodes of the first season. And if that weren’t enough heft, also cast during the first season are popular former-Feebs Gillian Anderson of X-Files and Millenium’s Lance Henriksen in as-yet undisclosed roles. However, it’s for sure that former-CSI Laurence Fishburne will be a recurring character, an FBI agent named Jack Crawford. The pilot will air April 4, and NBC is clearly not sparing the starpower or the production value, so take a peek, and let us know what you think!

I have been LOVING The Following (adore Kevin Bacon)…even though I watch it in cringe mode!!! As a crime lover (retired cop…go figure), I am loving the variety that has been coming back to the small screen. I do not enjoy the bloody blood (already saw a lifetime of it), but it is part of the crime, so…..bring it on and I will watch!
