New York Comic Con took to New York City's Javit's Center from October 9th through the 12th. Although the thousands of people who turned up arrived for a variety of reasons, one thing was clear: everyone was having a blast being there.
After all, where else can a young Luigi run into a fully operational R2-D2?
No place; that's where.
Comic Con wasn't just about dressing up, although you'd have a hard time convincing many of the people I saw there. It was also a way for up-and-coming businesses to stand alongside industry giants and put their products on an equal stage. Small-time comic publisher booths were in the same room as DC and Marvel. Indie video game developers stippled the floor amongst Bandai and Capcom. And while there was a permanent line at Marvel's Hulk-sized booth, I never saw any booth completely empty.
Some cool technology was on display as well, including the Wacom and MegaBots booths. Wacom designs styluses and let Con-goers sample them by designing their own t-shirts that could be printed on demand.
MegaBots is a completely different beast, literally. In its infancy, MegaBots hopes to build a full arsenal of robotic warriors that would take to arenas across the United States and battle for supremacy. This is quite literally a video game come to life.
Although it might have been easy to overlook with all of the commotion on the showroom floor, Comic Con played host to many panels and screenings.
Disney opened things up with the premiere trailer for TOMORROWLAND, as well as an exclusive look at its soon-to-be-released Big Hero 6.
Over the course of the week, fans were able to see panels on Adam West's Batman, Constantine, Elementary, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Gotham, Sleepy Hollow, Daredevil, and The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead's panel was the highlight event of Comic Con, with stars Andrew Lincoln (Rick), Steve Yeun (Glenn), Norman Reedus (Darryl), Melissa McBride (Carol), Lauren Cohan (Maggie) and others all attending.
