“Something’s Happening Out There”: Trailer for Deliver Us from Evil (And Sweepstakes!)

Eric Bana, left, playes NYPD Officer Ralph Sarchie.

Deliver Us from Evil is slated to hit theaters July 2nd, and while it may seem like just another cookie-cutter horror film designed solely for teenagers looking for an excuse to get close, there is more than meets the eye. Adapted from 2001’s Beware the Night written by Ralph Sarchie and Lisa Collier Cool, Deliver Us from Evil follows a NYPD officer as he investigates a series of demonic and ritualistic crimes. Sarchie was a 16-year NYPD veteran from the south Bronx’s 46th Precinct when he published Beware the Night, and it’s about his real-life experiences on the job.

While Deliver Us from Night might take a more liberal approach to retelling Sarchie’s book, the fact that the film derives from some truth helps it to stand out from the other horror films we’ve grown all too accustomed to recently.

Deliver Us from Evil will star Eric Bana, Edgar Ramirez, Olivia Munn and Joel McHale and is directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister andThe Exorcism of Emily Rose).

    Are you KIDDING me—?

Just viewed the film trailer: great cast, wonderful director, perfect lighting and art direction and settings, attention to detail, based on a Policeman’s actual files/book, and a rolling toy owl’s head that says, “Ha Ha Who” as it approaches . . . .

The only thing that would make this more “leave town and hole up in a cave, terrifying” is if it included one of the most insane Societies of Jesus ever created.

Oh wait, it DOES. The Jesuits, the JESUITS ? ! ? ! ? ! ? For crying out loud, are you KIDDING me—?
