Cremains of the Day: The Ultimate Parting Shot

Holy Smoke's Ash-filled Shells

Holy Smoke will place the ashes of your deceased loved ones inside live shotgun shells that you can “fire when ready” for a suitable send-off. (We’ve resisted making a “going out with a bang” remark here. Aren’t you proud of us?)

Founded by two Alabama game wardens, Holy Smoke was born from a conversation between one of the founders and a friend about how they envisioned their final resting places. As the company website explains, the friend said:

“You know I've thought about this for some time and I want to be cremated. Then I want my ashes put into some turkey load shotgun shells and have someone that knows how to turkey hunt use the shotgun shells with my ashes to shoot a turkey. That way I will rest in peace knowing that the last thing that one turkey will see is me, screaming at him at about 900 feet per second.”

Orders start at 250 rounds of ammunition in the caliber or gauge of your choice. It’s an unusual way to discharge cremains, but for some folks it is the ultimate parting shot.
