Zinng: Veronica Mars Movie and Kids’ Crime

  • Over $2 million was raised by the Veronica Mars Movie Project fans in LESS THAN ONE DAY on Kickstarter to show Warner Bros. their support for a movie project that would allow creator Rob Thomas to bring the girl (now woman) detective back to snoop around Neptune, California.
  • The UK’s CILIP Carnegie Medal shortlist for children’s fiction was announced, includes titles for kids who favor crime, adventure, and horror such as Maggot Moon by Sally Gardner (11 yrs +), In Darkness by Nick Lake (13 yrs +), Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgewick (11 yrs +), and Code Name: Verity by Elizabeth Wein (13+)
  • Concurrently were announced the nominees for the Kate Greenaway Medal for illustrated children’s books. Titles of interest to the mystery-minded and thrill-seekers include I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen (5 yrs +), Black Dog by Levi Pinfold (5 yrs +), and Pirates ’n’ Pistols by Chris Mould (9 yrs +)

    Hmm. Usually, I appreciate what Criminal Element does. But using the title “Bullet Points” on a post of bulleted news bits — exactly the same way that The Rap Sheet has been doing for years now — seems a bit less than imaginative.

    Could you maybe come up with a different continuing title?

    May I stress that Kickstarter represents pledges, not actual monies collected? Kickstarter has an actual collection rate of as low as thirty percent depending on the type of projected being funded.

    And if I was Warner Brothers thinking of spending some tens of millions on a given film, I wouldn’t be very impressed.
