Linda on Lifetime: An Amish Murder Debuts Sunday

Linda Castillo’s Kate Burkholder is no stranger to the Amish—after all, she was raised Amish before leaving the community and being shunned. Now she’s the chief of police in the small Ohio town she left behind. She survived a serial killer as a child (that’s old hat for Scream Queen Neve Campbell) and now, as the chief, another killer is on the loose.

So, are you going to tune in to the Lifetime movie on Sunday, or will you leave Kate Burkholder immortalized in her books?

The movie is I interesting, however, I wish proper research was done into the life of the Amish. They do not use buttons in their clothing, hooks and eyes are used.

@Elaine- I'm afraid TV productions routinely take liberties and often have, um, relaxed standards of accuracy, even with well-done source material, as Linda Castillo's books are generally regarded. Hope you'll let us know if you enjoyed it overall!

it was ok...not as good as the book of course, but not too bad.
I read it might become a series..

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but I haven't read the books. I'll have to check them out.

@Elaine- Different communities do have different sets of rules and changes are made on a case-by-case basis. I know that safety pins, snaps and velcro are used a lot and it seems as though men are generally allowed buttons on their work clothing. Interestingly enough, the issue with buttons stems from an opposition to the lavish display of buttons on military uniforms. Makes sense that it would go against both their sense of "plainess" and pacifism.
