Ripping It Up: The BBC’s Ripper Street

Can anyone really ever get tired of Jack the Ripper-inspired movies and TV shows? We here at Criminal Element say “Nay!”. Which is exactly why we are all kind of excited about the BBC show, Ripper Street, coming soon to BBC America. The show is a historical drama set in the Whitechapel area of London around the turn of the century. We can all guess what happens to start the mystery ball rolling.  It stars Jerome Flynn of Game of Thrones/Bronn fame, who has already proved his noir chops as a part of HBO’s popular epic. It also stars favorite MI-5 spy and famous Darcy impersonator, Matthew Macfadyen.

We’ve been following BBC America’s turn of the century New York drama Copper, as well as the modern adaptation of the story of London’s most infamous neighborhood in Whitechapel. Do you think that we could use a Jack the Ripper-driven historical?

    Did you know when they are going to realese RS?… I can’t find any information in any bbc website.

    I’ve been reading a lot about and I’m pretty excited because I really like this kind of plots… and yes, I’m thrilled about Matthew Macfadyen.

    @Caro, the only thing I’ve been able to find is that it’s airing sometime in the Fall and that is is supposed to be an 8 part series. While I’m a fan of MI-5 or Spooks, if you enjoyed the show before it was cool, I’m more excited to see Bronn getting more work, really love him in Game of Thrones.
