CBS Sunsetting CSI:Miami?

David Caruso as CSI:Miami’s Horatio Caine Caine disappears into the sunset?! Considering its crime shows, CBS has just announced that it’s pulling down the shades on Poppy Montgomery’s Unforgettable, which wasn’t unpopular, but suffered in comparison to blockbusting shows. Rookie cop drama NYC-22 also fell off the pier and, after a gigundous ten seasons, stalwart CSI: Miami.

Still enjoying a place in the sun are several upcoming crime series, including the modern Sherlock-in-NYC of Elementary, Vegas (perhaps sadly, not with awesome Dan Tanna, but a 1960s crime drama based on a real sheriff), and cop-to-commissioner story Golden Boy.

Perhaps you’d argue, but if Archie Bunker’s chair belongs in the Smithsonian, don’t Horatio Caine’s shades? Of course, we’ll always savor Scott D. Parker’s spirited explanation of why CSI:Miami was beloved by its fans, but if you haven’t seen this in a while, let’s enjoy this sunset-kissed montage together.

Tell us more about this new 1960's "Vegas" crime drama. Can't find anything about it on IMDB or via searches.

JW - try googling Dennis Quaid and Vegas or Michael Chiklis and Vegas. As far as I remember those are the folks set to star in it!

Here's a niblet purportedly lrom Deadline: Vegas, also from CBS TV Studios, boasts four actors who have carried movies and TV shows: Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis, Jason O’Mara and Carrie-Anne Moss. Considered CBS’ big-swing new series for next season, it is a period piece set in the 1960s centered around the true story of Ralph Lamb (Quaid) – rodeo cowboy turned longtime Sheriff of Las Vegas. Goodfellas‘ Nicholas Pileggi and Greg Walker wrote the pilot, which was directed by James Mangold.

... I forgot that, a while back, I read about a planned production based on Sheriff Lamb. The Lamb family was quite a "colorful" institution in Nevada politics and law enforcement. Also brings me some pleasure to see that this has gone forward, since my historical crime novel is set in 1970 Las Vegas.

Personally, I'm glad it's going. I used to like Caruso but I sure don't like his character, Horatio Cain. He never looks at anyone. And what would he do with his hands if he didn't have hips? It looked like it would be good when shown initially with CSI: Vegas but what a disappointment to me.

I never liked CSI: Miami, except a little teeny bit, the first season with Kim Delany. I might have seen 2 or 3 seasons and the occasional episode, but I always thought that Horatio was condescending and treated his team as idiots, he was always the one who saw the truth, he never made mistakes, he was arrogant (and not in a good way!) and had to be in all the important scenes. I never felt it was a true ensemble show like the original CSI (which I stopped watching 6 or 7 years ago) or NCIS.
