Lilyhammer’s First Season Coming February 6

Steven Van Zandt as Frank Tagliano in Lilyhammer
Netflix is entering the subscription television world with Lilyhammer, starring Steven Van Zandt as—what else—an East Coast mobster who decides that the ideal place to hide out while in Witness Protection would be Lillehammer, Norway, which he knows about only from seeing it on television during the 1994 Olympics.

Of course, things don’t work out quite the way Van Zandt’s character, Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano, expects.

If that sounds a bit like the Steve Martin flick My Blue Heaven to you, well, you’re not alone. It sounds that way to me, too, though the trailer makes it look considerably more violent. I will probably give it a shot because I bet it will be beautiful. (And because the sheep in the trailer is hilarious.)

Netflix refers to the first eight episodes of Lilyhammer as “the first season,” but all eight episodes will be available streaming on February 6. Which begs the question of whether it can actually be called a “season” or not. What do you think?
