Rampart: Woody Harrelson as a Corrupt Cop?

Woody Harrelson as Dave
Until the Rampart trailer hit the ’Net, Woody Harrelson seemed an unlikely choice for the super-corrupt, super-violent lead cop (despite the rave reviews he’s garnered at festivals). The movie, written by James Ellroy, has a stellar cast; Harrelson is supported by Ben Foster, Robin Wright, Sigourney Weaver, Ice Cube, Anne Heche, Ned Beatty, Cynthia Nixon and Steve Buscemi. It opens in theaters in NY and LA today, just in time for Thanksgiving…though it does look dark enough to make you lose your appetite. Check out the trailer and see what you think!

I’ve seen this; did not like it. Harrelson does a great job but his character is loathsome. And there’s really no story; it’s more like a character study. We just watch a man devolve into more depravity as the movie progresses. I expected more from a script co-written by Ellroy,

The supporting cast is more or less wasted.

Er, that should’ve been a period after Ellroy.

Oh, that’s really a shame. Between the writing and the supporting cast, I really thought this might be worth a look!
