Can’t wait until end of September (when The Affair is released) for more hard-bitten Jack Reacher? The new Second Son novella, released yesterday, is a prequel to the Reacher we know (and love, and sometimes fear) today. It takes place when Reacher was 13, and his family is stationed on a military base in Okinawa.
The question is, do you want to see your protagonist as a teenager? Just imagine: Hercule Poirot’s first pubescent attempts at a moustache, Sherlock Holmes as an introverted teenager whom everyone hates ’cause he’s so smart, maybe Lord Peter Wimsey being a supercilious brat.
We’re guessing Reacher doesn’t have a big problem with acne in this story, though. Are you intrigued?
I am intrigued. I’d like to meet the child who became the man, but, alas, this seems to be only in e-book format and I don’t do e-books.
@Terrie – it is interesting that it is in e-book format. They must be experimenting.
I can’t believe they would issue this as an Ebook only. Bookstores Need Love, Too!!
I have noticed that when some of these authors do these ebook novellas, and they sell well, when there are about 3 or 4 of them the publisher will put them in a bound book. Fingers crossed right?
I don’t do e-books either, so this is rather disappointing. I would be intrigued if I had a shot a reading it!
Or maybe he’s just appalled that the tiny Tom Cruise will be playing the very tall grown-up Jack Reacher in a film. How dreadful.
