New Blade Runner? Ridley Scott is a Replicant!

They don’t advertise for killers in the newspaper. That was my profession. Ex-cop. Ex-blade runner. Ex-killer.
Ridley Scott has announced he wants to make a new installment in the Blade Runner franchise.  Now, we have talked about our feelings towards remakes before, especially ones that don’t exactly catch the eye, but I can’t help but be excited about this. I mean, first off, the guy who made Rick Deckard such a hard-boiled badass is returning to the director’s chair. They didn’t buy the rights and just get some latter-day fanboy director who’s hung-up on the series. That can’t be bad news, and I refuse to listen to any evidence to the contrary!

But seriously, the original movie was made in 1982, and the L.A. that Scott created with basic special FX (compared to today’s budget busting cgi ) is still amazing. Not to mention that Blade Runner launched a whole movement of Cyberpunk/Neo-Noir that lasted for a solid chunk of the 80s and 90s—any other Hackers fans out there?—of which I was and remain an advocate.

The main worries I have are that he will move away from the great story and characters from the first movie and move more towards the whole “look what I can do with computers/remember when we made that awesome movie” thought process that seems to be plaguing a good amount of the movies recently. That and the original timeline had the dystopian Los Angeles set sometime in 2019, and we don’t have flying cars yet, so he may need to advance the timeline a smidge.
