We mentioned recently that Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace are starring Animal Rescue, a film adaptation of a Dennis Lehane short story from the 2009 Boston Noir anthology, in which a bartender finds a puppy in the garbage, leading to a dip through the criminal underbelly of Boston.

But when it comes out next year, the film will have even more significance: it will mark James Gandolfini’s last film appearance.

The crime drama involves a rescue pit bull, which Gandolfini—a rescue dog owner himself—must have loved. It’s set for theatrical release in 2014.
